Can Meditation Help Your Career?

TRACY QUANTUM - Meditation and CareerI spend a lot of time talking about the many ways meditation can benefit you, but one I forget to mention enough is how meditation can help your career. Everyone is trying to climb the ladder towards success, and most people with a lot of ambition are going about it the usual way: they show up early, leave late, and never complain. Keeping up with this approach can be exhausting, to stay the least, and will lead many workers to experiencing burnout.

What if I told you there was another way you could improve your career without turning yourself into the company mule? Believe it or not, just 15 minutes of meditation a day can make you a better worker. A study published in the journal Psychological Science has confirmed that people who meditate for 15 minutes a day are able to make wiser, more rational decisions. What’s more, they discovered that these people are less likely to quit their job, and they get higher performance ratings than their peers who don’t meditate.

So, if you’re looking for an easy way to gain an edge at work, it doesn’t get much simpler than 15 minutes of meditation a day. It certainly beats burning the midnight oil. And if you happen to be thinking you don’t know how you’re going to find an extra 15 minutes a day for this, let me remind you that you can do this while you’re at work. Assuming you at least get a 30-minute lunch break each day, you could easily turn 15 minutes of that break into a mindful eating session.

You likely have plenty of other opportunities throughout your workday to squeeze in a few minutes of mindfulness. Give it a shot today!
