Veterans Under Stress Looking for Work: Meditation Can Help Bring Balance
Categories: Meditation and Military
It’s ironic that the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country have such a hard time finding work after they leave the military, but it’s a harsh reality that so many veterans have to face. What so many people don’t realize is that when you leave military-life for life as a civilian, you have to start over. What’s more, it’s not just a matter of having a hard time finding a job or career that suits you; it’s a matter of finding any work at all. It’s not as if someone is waving a huge sign that says, “Veterans, come work here!”
Recent statistics show Gulf War-II era veterans have a slightly higher unemployment rate than everyone else, and in 2010 veterans aged 22 to 24 had an unemployment rate of 20.6%. Going to war has to be one of the most stressful events a person can experience, but struggling to find a job is not a distant second. Some veterans have even committed suicide as a result of their inability to find work.
If you or someone you know is a veteran struggling to find work, I know what you are going through. I know that this must be one of the most stressful times of your life. That’s why I’m here to offer meditation as a tool you can use to bring balance back to your life. It might sound like an unbelievable claim, but please bear with me.
Before you write off meditation as a bunch of hocus-pocus, guru mumbo-jumbo, etc…consider what modern science has been saying about meditation. Meditation has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety; it has been proven to help people with depression; it has been observed that people can use meditation to change their mood and behavior.
Not only can meditation help you feel more at ease, it can actually help you succeed in your quest to find work. When you’re stressed out; when you feel depressed and despondent; you can’t think straight — your thoughts feel cloudy and you start to become apathetic. But when you are relaxed, you can focus and think clearly. When your mind is clear you can succeed.
I encourage you to spend some time reading through my blog and watching some of my videos so you can learn more about the power of meditation.
